Questions about Estrelis Spec to Family

Answers about what a Revit family is, which Revit versions open the file, whether you need Revit, what it costs, who owns the file and how long it takes.

What is a Revit family?

A Revit family is the file an architect or a client asks you to supply for a product. Estrelis Spec to Family builds it as an .rfa file from your spec sheet, with renders so you can check it first. At Basic it has the correct size, a name and a category, so it schedules.

Which Revit versions does the file open in?

The family is an .rfa file that opens in Revit 2024 and later.

Do I need Revit?

No. Estrelis Spec to Family is for anyone an architect has asked for a family and who does not have Revit. You upload the cut sheet or type the dimensions, confirm what we read, and download the file. The family is built in our cloud, and you hand the file to the architect.

What does it cost?

A family costs 1 to 3 credits depending on the level of detail: Basic is 1 credit, Standard is 2 and Detailed is 3. A credit is $10, $9 in a pack of 25, and $8, $7.50 or $7 on a monthly plan. Add a card at sign-up and you get 3 credits, up to 3 free families, good for 30 days, with nothing charged.

Who owns the file?

You do. Every family you make here is yours, and whatever rights we could claim in it and its renders are assigned to you on delivery, as far as the law allows. We keep only the licence we need to store, process and show it to you for the service. There is no attribution and no expiry. We do not share your families, pool them or train on them.

How long does it take?

Most families take 3 to 10 minutes from upload to download: about 3 minutes at Basic, about 6 minutes at Standard and about 10 minutes at Detailed.
